What does a facilitator do?

Engage discussion and decisions to help reach goals.
The modern-day facilitator does much more than introduce participants, jot down ideas, and keep time.
A skilled facilitator can help members to engage in a fruitful discussion where the main issues are debated, and important decisions are made within a reasonable amount of time. Effective facilitation can mean the difference between accomplishing the meeting’s goals and failure to do so. This is especially true in meetings that involve complex discussions and intricate group dynamics where competing views and interests come into play.
By virtue of not having any personal interest in the meeting’s outcome, a good facilitator is able to remain neutral and focus on steering the meeting in the right direction.
